One of the Amazing Architectures of Delhi

  Lotus Temple, Delhi
One of the seven Baha'i Houses resides in Delhi. Dedicated in December 1986, famous for its architecture; Lotus like shape, it has become an attraction for the Tourists from all over the World. The Canadian architect Fariborz Sahba had created a Marvelous piece of Art. This temple is known to cost around $10 million. The structural system is made up of concrete frame and concrete ribbed roof, structural engineers being Flint & Neill, it was completed by November 13th 1986, the structure of 27 petals made of marbles standing free, constructed in a bunch of three petals creating nine sides. The nine doors open to a central hall which has the capacity to hold 2,500 people at a time, no external lights are required to light up the hall as the light enters through the inner folds of the Lotus and lits the whole hall. The temple being surrounded by 9 ponds and the gardens, the whole property is spread over 26 acres.

This place is open all days except for Monday. Timings are like: October to March - 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, April to September - 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM. The prayers are held for 5 minutes, other religious prayers are also chanted, during this time no one is allowed to leave the place until its over, the timings for prayers are 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 3:00 PM & 5:00 PM.  Visit to this place is free.

The moment you enter the premises, you would fall in love with the floral beauty of this place, the pathways leading to the temple is lined with lush green grass, the soothing Ambiance of the place suppresses the anxiety of the bubbling crowd. The pools on each side of the temple makes it look more appealing, once inside you will be amazed as you start observing the place silently, attaining an immense peace of mind, the place gives you a blissful experience of meditation. Everyone is allowed in this temple, there is no discrimination of caste, race, religion. They welcome every religion and their religious text could be sung in this place, this place is a preacher of silence. Non- spiritual activities are strictly not allowed in this place.

Few interesting activities performed in this temple are:
Children's Classes- They teach the values, such as justice,truthfulness, generosity, courage, reliance on God, kindness, unity, service to humanity through Baha'i teachings.
Sunset and Lotus Temple
Junior Youth Classes- These classes seek to build spiritual and intellectual capacities in children aged 11-14 years.
Devotional Meetings- The main focus is to create a loving and harmonious environment within the community.
Study Circles- This is aimed to make a comprehensive study of  Baha'i writings, Prayers, and Life and Death, creating a spiritual consciousness among the people.

Apart from these Lotus Temple also hosts the One Ocean Events, which is a performing art series celebrating the diversity and unity of mankind.

This place is a must visit of the capital.
