How to write a Book Review?

Now-a-days students are often not able to understand How to write a book review?
Book reviews are compulsory in ISC which makes it an important topic to discuss.

Now we need to understand what is a Book Review

A book review describes the plot analyzes the authors point of view and evaluates the moral. The review explains an opinion on the book supporting it with evidence from the book itself.

You might make mistakes in your first few attempts but its alright, if you read these points and keep them in mind, I can guarantee, you will not face any problems in creating an amazing book review. Earlier I also had no idea about book reviews but I didn't stop, I kept on researching about Book Reviews and came up with few basic clarities which is necessary and helpful.
So here it goes:

Before you start Writing, think about these!
  • Title of the Book - What does it mean?
  • Preface/Introduction - This part provides important information about the author's thoughts about the book. You will get a glimpse about the idea behind the aim of the book.
  • The Contents - This is the part which shows how the book is organized.
Points you should know while you read the entire book:
  • Book's genre?
  • Book's point of view?
  • Author's point of view about his book?
  • Make notes of passages which are important to quote in your review.
  • Did you understand the author's point ?
  • What is the style of the author?                                                                                                      - Formal? Informal? Suitable for the target audience?
  • Is the story understandable? Is the language easy and convincing?
  • The preface, summary, conclusions, contents(is there any primary or secondary layout) all relevant to the topic?
  • Has the author designed the book according to the context? whether yes or no, take a note of that too.
Writing the Review:
  • First part- title of the book, author's name, place it was written if a formal book (autobiography, thesis, bibliography etc) publisher & publication date, current edition, no of pages, any special features like (maps, sketches of ruins, handwritten manuscripts etc.),  latest price.
  • If it is a frictional book then firstly figure out the story, its characters, main characters, character's credibility, the plot is romantic, thriller, adventurous or comedy, your favorite part and why, do you wish it was true and why, why do you recommend this story, what type of audience will like it.
  • The Opening Sentence should hook the reader. Follow the guidelines, some editors want plot summaries some don't. Some want you to say to the point if you recommend a book.
  • Review should be on the book you read and not the book you wish the author had written, you are not asked to write against the motion because reviews are always for highlighting the benefits of the book.
  • Explain why this is the best book you have ever read. Or it can merely be another nice book, but explain about it.
  • You should include informations about the author's reputation, qualifications, etc. anything relevant to the book and the author's authority, enlighten the readers.
  • Make your plot easy for every person be it a book worm or a non-book reader, revise before finalizing the plot, revision will make you confident about your work and you will know if there are any mistakes.
If you want to be a book reviewer then these are few tips!
  • Don't focus only on famous authors, many authors are there and remember famous authors also have written simple books and grown to their position step by step.
  • Your review should not be on the basis of the people you know,  you love, or hate, your emotions should be connected to the books context strictly.
